The 2017 Met Gala just came and went, and we’re still in awe by the amazing outfits that celebrities, models, and other guests showed off at the red carpet.
At every first Monday of May, the famous Ball gathers an exclusive guest list of trendy stars to celebrate fashion design and some of its iconic artists.
What Is The Met Gala?
Officially named the “Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala”, this fashion extravaganza has been taking place since 1946 as a fundraiser for the Institute’s initiatives. It also serves as an inaugural event of their annual exhibition.
The Met Gala’s exclusivity flair is highlighted by the fact that only around 600 guests are invited to attend each year. Each one of them is personally approved by the Gala’s council, led by Vogue’s Editor in Chief Anna Wintour. This means that purchasing a ticket (whose prices are over the tens of thousands of dollars) and putting on your best black-tie look isn’t enough to get you in.
It was Wintour who took the gala from a New York centered fundraiser to a celebrity-filled occasion when she became part of the council in 1995. Since then, many stars and influential personalities have been obsessed with getting an invite to the Gala. For them, it’s the closest they’ll ever be to be part of a Vogue spread, and we don’t blame them!
A Star-Studded Event
Every year, the gala honors a different designer or iconic fashion era, which is then celebrated at the Institute’s exhibition. This year, the honoree was Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons, and the first living designer to be celebrated at the Gala since Yves St. Laurent in 1983.
Recently, Vogue magazine made a feature of the hottest trends seen on the red carpet of this year’s Met Gala. All of them are truly amazing, but we chose the top four trends that really made us wish we were there.
We believe these trends can inspire you for any upcoming event you have on the horizon for the rest of Spring and even for the Summer!

50s Inspired Fashion
The first trend is fresh out of the 20th century.
Calling the Fifties a simpler era, fashion wise, has been more than done. But, we have to admit that the elegant lines that became the center of their fashion are still a reference for designers and trendsetters.
The femininity of an A-lined dress is simply impossible to beat with the edgier cuts of today.
Stunning models like Miranda Kerr, Lily Rose-Depp and Candice Swanepoel wore dresses inspired by the Fifties that looked straight out the most amazing vintage collection of some of the biggest designers of that era.
Whether you’re raiding your mom’s well-kept classic, or use a designer look inspired by the Fifties, you need to sport it with some amazing accessories.
The first one gives you a tiny dose of sparkle.
This delightful 18kt white gold ring is a perfect match with a classic French manicure. It features 1.95cts of sparkling round diamonds in a classic look.
But, if you’re looking for more shine, then you need to have this white gold bracelet.
Coming out from the same collection as the ring (so you can match both!) this 18kt white gold bracelet features 43.42cts of sparkling round diamonds. The eye-catching design, in which your wrist will be surrounded by diamonds, evokes the best of 1950s Hollywood glamour, where the more opulence you could add to your outfit, the better.
One Shoulder Special
The second trend is dedicated to all the lovers of asymmetrical things.
The off-shoulder look is one of our favorite shirt trends from Spring-Summer 2017. They can be dressed down with jeans or dressed up as part of an amazing dress.
For this trend, however, pendants and necklaces are out of the question, since they can break the slender effect that an asymmetrical cut creates with the wearer’s collarbone and shoulders.
Instead, go for some stunning earrings for your jewelry to stand out on their own.
If you want to wear something more traditional, you need to go for these white gold drop earrings.
These impressive 18kt white gold earrings feature 15.05cts of dazzling round diamonds, in a stunning drop shape. The pave setting used to place the diamonds concentrate the sparkle in each ear, so it’ll be very hard to miss!
Are you looking for something much more daring? These chandelier earrings will make you feel like a rock star.
This seducing pair comes from the Glam Noir collection. Made from 18kt white gold, they showcase 6.61cts of black and white diamonds paired together with 4.10 grams of stunning black Tahitian pearls. Match them with your one shoulder dress and a revealing smoky eye for an amazing look.
The third trend celebs boasted at the Met Gala were pastel colors. The trailblazer of this trend was Jennifer Lopez with a stunning blue dress. Stars like Jessica Chastain and Zoe Kravitz also followed suit with soft shades of yellow and pink.
As the name states, the idea of this trend is to focus on your favorite sweet tone. Pastels soften any woman’s features and it’s flattering on almost all skin tones.
If you’re going for a pastel pink, your best bet is this gorgeous rose gold stretch bracelet.
This exquisite bracelet is made from 18kt rose gold. It showcases 12.79cts of beautiful pink sapphires, which are accentuated by 0.80cts of sparkling round diamonds. Its stretching feature makes it comfortable enough for daywear and the gem combination makes it ideal for nighttime.
Do you prefer a ring? How about this multicolored one?
If you can’t pick a favorite pastel color, this ring is perfect for you! This 18kt white gold cocktail ring showcases a variety of semi-precious gems. It has a pink opal, amethyst, blue topaz, peridot and citrine, and in total, these gems weigh 3.18cts. They’re accompanied by 1.29cts of sparkling diamonds, placed around and in between the gems.
This ring is perfect for fancier evening outings, such as dinner parties and opulent weddings.
A Revealing Cutout
We’ve arrived to the last trend that made us drop our jaws at the Met Gala.
When it comes to unique cuts on dresses, many celebs who attended the Met Gala made use of two types.
The first one is the classic slit on one side of the dress, to show off a toned leg to the press.
The second one, however, takes it one step further, by introducing cutouts in the body of the dress, revealing skin in unexpected (albeit, always classy) places.
Are you daring enough to test this trend?
Make sure to only pair it with a single accessory. You want the dress to be the center of attention, so avoid excessive bling. Instead, focus on showing off your fantastic manicure with an audacious ring.
If you want to continue the cutout look even in your jewelry, this cocktail ring is perfect.
This 18kt rose gold ring is part of the Allure collection, and it sure lives up to its name! It features 1.61cts of sparkling white round diamonds on top of a custom cut rose quartz. The cutout design leaves some gaps for the rose to shine out and give an air of delicacy to your look.
For an even more daring option, black diamonds are your friends.
This white gold cocktail ring gives a special, seductive flair to your outfit to make you the center of attention once and for all.
You’ll be struck in awe by the 2.87cts of black diamonds on top of the ring. It also features 0.23cts of round white diamonds, 0.50cts of rubies and 0.36cts of orange sapphires, which are sprinkled around the ring, giving a dazzling touch of color.
