Lakmé Fashion Week 2016: Indian Fashion Show

Lakmé Fashion Week is Mumbai’s premier, bi-annual fashion event with a vision to “Redefine the future of Fashion and integrate India into the global fashion world.” Historically, the weeklong event has attracted international labels – such as Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Roberto Cavalli – who participate alongside India’s best fashion designers – including Tarun Tahiliani and Ritu Beri – to create a truly remarkable show. Typically, the result is a unique blend of high-fashion takes on Bollywood, traditional, and modern styles. Between the styles presented, the shows feature breathtaking designs, gorgeous fabrics, and glamorous fine jewelry.

This year’s Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 was no exception, featuring a variety of styles from Indian and international designers. We saw everything – from elegant gowns to trendy sportswear hit the runway. In the end, the shows proved Mumbai has the design power to become a trend-setting fashion capital.

Here are a few of our favorite looks from the event:

Urvashi Joneja shared a collection of elegant gowns with elaborate designs. This gown fused traditional looks with modern touches. The sleeveless design and mid-waist belt create a simple, but sensual silhouette while the green fabric allows the yellow, orange and red swirls to pop vividly. It is a perfect choice for the modern woman!

Neeta Lulla also made an impression with her charming collection of traditional and modern outfits. Long, flowing gowns adorned with shimmering sequin and textured patterns seemed to be her style of choice. This lovely, Indian fashion designer also chose to complete her looks with multiple bracelets, gemstone rings and large earrings.

Lakme Absolute grand finale by Rohit Bal at #LakmeFashionWeek

Posted by Lakme Fashion Week on Tuesday, April 5, 2016

Indian fashion designer, Rohit Bal, was given the honor of closing the fashion week. Lakmé’s grand finale incorporated a wide range of cultural ensembles and demonstrated the designer’s uncanny ability to create elaborate outfits that capture the essence of Indian elegance and glamour. We believe Bal’s collection was a wonderfully fitting choice to bring this celebration of beauty, fashion and jewelry to a close.

Altogether the fashion week in Mumbai was inspiring and exciting. The range of styles and fashion designers provoked thoughts of Indian influences in international fashion and jewelry design. We can’t wait for the next round of Lakmé Fashion Week at their Winter/Festive show… Stay tuned for details.
